ARTIST STATEMENT
have been developing a vocabulary for my current work since 1996, which originates from the linear landscape of New York City. It has since mutated to geometric spaces and their relationships to each other while still adhering to its architectural origins. My color palette is always in flux and am always searching for new color relationships. I never cease to be amazed by the personalities colors take on when placed next to each other: colors can swear at each other, make love to each other, embarrass each and unfortunately, even ignore each other. I’d like to believe that a color can reveal a new side of itself long after the painting has been finished and has found a home.
I use marble dust and wax medium to create different surfaces and textures.
The marble dust gives the paint a chalky look while the wax medium enhances
the paint with a soft patina as well as giving a translucency, revealing
the layers of paint underneath. Both mediums lend an organic feel to the
oil paint.
As my work has evolved I devote most of my concentrations on shape and color
relationships for my main goal is to enhance the beauty of one’s living
and/or work environment.
